LIT LINES AT PALAZZO DURINI, MILAN 2011
‘I designed this family of lights after my extensive travels to India, to places where, at night, long, linear bulbs hang in random configurations. Each of those arrangements is a spontaneous creative act that solves a practical problem. The fluorescent tubes, naked in plastic casings, are mounted on metal brackets or even simply tied to buildings and trees. The supports and unrefined casings completely disappear in the dark, so only the bright silhouettes remain. Moving through these, one starts to see images of familiar objects. And, just at the point of recognition, the viewing angle changes and the shapes once again become ambiguous, attenuated – almost rarefied.’
