To mark the Republic of Cyprus’ participation in the 57th Venice Biennale, Michael Anastassiades was commissioned to interpret the interiors of the Cyprus pavilion exhibition space, which featured a solo presentation of new paintings by representing artist Polys Peslikas. In order to create a clear layout and give space to the artworks, Anastassiades stripped back the rooms to their original, raw walls (echoing the layered depth of Peslikas’ canvasses) and designed a very linear, spacious exhibition layout, complete with stone benches for the contemplation of the paintings.
