LI GALLI ISLANDS
Conceived as a private commission, this unique collection of three coffee tables is an example of how landscape enters Michael Anastassiades’ design in order to turn functionality into a poetic statement. The shape of each table follows the silhouette of one of the three islands forming the Li Galli archipelagos off the Amalfi coast in Italy (Gallo Lungo, La Castelluccia, and La Rotonda), with three different natural materials being used for each individual piece: Statuario marble, Verde Alpi marble, and Ceppo di Gre stone. Positioned in various areas of the same private property, each piece responds to the aesthetic qualities of the surrounding environment via its design and the chosen material, creating a dialogue between nature, craft, domesticity and abstraction.
