ROCC FOR ALESSI, 2025
I have always had a strong sense of smell. All my childhood memories are conjured up through individual or combined smells. I can vividly recall the scent of many plants that I came across during my walks in Cyprus when I was young. When I spot those plants in the distance or see a picture of them somewhere, I can almost smell their scent. Plants can be aromatic, but many times the image of other things that don’t normally smell comes to mind, and this becomes part of a memory that does!
When I let my olfactory daydreaming run wild, I often try to imagine how stones might smell. It may well be because of my long-standing fascination with stones, an obsession I have had for over 50 years.
