Little Helper For Alessi, 2025
I am fascinated by how human ingenuity always manages to get around small obstacles. In an attempt to solve a simple problem, the solution is usually a spontaneous act of improvisation often facilitated by bringing a second object that happens to be in the vicinity. A pencil holds a window flap open or a heavy stone is used as door stop.
Most times the solution is only temporary and the borrowed object comes into play for the duration required, but sometimes the object remains there on a permanent basis and acquires a new dedicated function. Therefore a form of symbiotic relationship develops, not one where each object benefits by an act of the other, but one where both work in unison to solve a problem.
Little Helper is a simple stainless steel plate that is used to activate an induction hob, so that you can heat up a moka that is not usually compatible. The moka sits on top of the plate and a vertical stem sits its by its side, then curves outward to provide a handle. The handle has a heat resistant silicone surface that gives it tactility and grip. Although compact in scale, Little Helper is designed to be displayed permanently on the kitchen counter together with the moka.
